In December 1912, a solemn consecration of the nice St. Nicholas Cathedral, created under the patronage of Tsar Nicholas II and his mother Empress Maria Feodorovna.

Being in all respects a magnificent artistic monument of Russian Church architecture, the temple is considered the most beautiful and valuable Russian Orthodox Church outside of Russia and, on the Royally approved definition of the Holy Synod, was the first foreign Russian churches received the honorary title of Cathedral.

The temple built according to the project, Professor of architecture at the Imperial Academy of Arts M. P. Transfiguration in the so-called old Russian style (the style of pre-Petrine churches of Moscow, Yaroslavl and Rostov the Great of the late XVI – early XVII centuries). Interior decoration of the Church was under the leadership of the Russian artist L. A. Panovskogo and represents a synthesis of the best examples of Church architecture of Moscow-Yaroslavl school.

For the construction of the Cathedral was used the finest European materials: facing brick made in Germany, roof tiles for domes and majolica in Italy, carving marble made by Italian craftsmen. The dome of the bell tower and all six crosses, crowning of the head, covered with gold leaf. Exterior decorative elements (arched openings, niches, Windows, trim, doors and openings of the South façade, the balconies on the tower, etc.) are made of carved white marble and are unique in their perfection of work.
