The Church of all saints in bad Homburg
City bad Homburg (Bad Homburg vor der Höhe) got its name from the fortress of Heinberg. The first mention of the city dates back to 1180. The status of the resort with the prefix “bad” – received in 1912.
Small, old, quiet town, famous for its curative mineral springs, ancient castle, beautiful parks and good memories of great people, visited, situated at the foot of a short, but scenic Taunus hills. Healing springs of different temperature, composition and therapeutic properties (carbonic acid, ferric salt), the water of which is used for drinking, bathing and health treatments.
In the second half of the nineteenth century, bad Homburg visited by hundreds of guests from Russia who want to improve their health and be seen.
Universal authority and love in bad Homburg was used by the head of Board of the Russian insurance company Alexander Provorov. He often came to bad Homburg “on the water” and due to its gallant manners, was a landmark of the city. Seeing in the street pretty lady, Provorov has consistently bowed and handed her a bouquet of roses.
Thanks to the initiative of Alexander I. in bad Homburg in October 1896 was founded the Russian Orthodox Church of All Saints. To build the Church he sacrificed personal savings, and also organized the collection of funds in Russia. The Church was built in three years, and at its opening was attended by Tsar Nicholas II and his wife Alexandra Feodorovna. The current Church is holding services to this day. Being already a Mature lady and mistress of a huge fortune Kiselyov had appeared in 1840 on the “waters” in bad Homburg. Kiselyov has built in bad Homburg four houses, and later the street on which these houses stood was called Kissilewstrasse. A wealthy Countess for many years have seen at the craps table casino. Despite frequent losses Kiseleva not was impoverished because her husband has so arranged things “so that she could afford, even if I wanted to”. When casinos in 1872 was closed, the elderly Kiselyov left bad Homburg. Her life became the prototype antonidy the word from the novel of Dostoevsky “the gambler”
Himself F. M. Dostoevsky, not once had bad Homburg, met at the old casino the Countess Kiseleva, because Dostoevsky was usertask player in roulette.
